The Vietnam Human Genome Network has been built on the basis of voluntary and consensus participation of mainly domestic human genome research institutions, which can be expanded to international research groups. Our works include contributing and sharing existing databases (WGS, WES…) including bioinformatic analysis results and building/maintaining VGN data portal; development of research studies based on existing and new data in the future; and successful cooperation and development of scientific and applied products.

VGN project targets to build a dataset of 1000 gDNA, 1000 whole genome and 1000 mtDNA databases, 500 whole exome sequences, and 1000 SNP chip genotyping. The database sources are expected to be shared by 10 research groups, including GeneStory, Institute of Genome Research, Institute of Biotechnology, Dinh Tien Hoang Institute of Medicine, School of Medicine – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi Medical University, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, 108 Military Central Hospital.

For database of whole genome and mtDNA genome, we aim to share a total of 1000 samples for each belonging to Muong, Tay, Thai, Nung, Hmong and Khmer. Bioinformatic analysis was performed through high-performance computing cluster in Institute of Genome Research and VinBigData. For WES database, the team aims to share total of 500 individual whole exome sequences, including 150 data of rare genetic diseases from Institute of Genome Research, and 350 datasets from other organizations. For SNP chip genotyping, database will be shared from Institute of Genome Research cooperation with Dept. of Evolutionary Genetics, Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig, Germany.
