Nguyen Thuy Duong
Project Leader
Dr. Nguyen Thuy Duong is the head of Human Genomics Laboratory, at the Institute of Genome Research, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. Over the past 15 year, she has been working on human diseases and identified many pathogenic mutations which were partly used as genetic markers for prenatal diagnosis.
Le Thi Ly
Project Leader
Assoc. Dr. Le Thi Ly teaches at the Faculty of Biotechnology, International University, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. Her main research direction is Computational Biology, Bioinformatics.
Vo Sy Nam
Director of Center
Dr. Nam Sy Vo is Director of Center for Biomedical Informatics at Vingroup Big Data Institute and an Affiliate Assistant Professor at College of Engineering and Computer Science at VinUniversity, Vietnam. Previously, Dr. Vo worked as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at Center for Translational Data Science at The University of Chicago. He was trained as a postdoc in Computational Biology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center after obtaining a PhD in Computer Science from The University of Memphis, USA.
Dr. Vo’s research interests focus on analysis and interpretation of large-scale multi-omics data towards understanding disease risk and adverse drug reaction. His work has been applied to several world’s largest datasets including The Cancer Genome Atlas and Therapeutically Applicable Research to Generate Effective Therapies. He is currently leading various projects focusing on sequencing and analyzing Vietnamese genomes at population scale for studying complex diseases in Viet Nam.
Nguyen Thanh Dat
Dat is a computational biologist who interests in applications and developments of statistical and computational methods to resolve complex biological problems. He developed and co-developed bioinformatic tools for analyzing RNA sequencing data and designing genotyping SNP array. Most of the tools are developed in R and C/C++.
Nguyen Ngoc Tran
At Vin Bigdata, Tran focuses on genetic database efforts. Prior to joining, Tran spent 6 years doing research at top-notch cancer centers in the US. Tran believes in the future of precision medicine democratization and works hard to make that happen in Vietnam.
Tran Quang Khai
Khai has 12 years experience in developing software, data processing, data mining and modelings applied in various fields: accounting/auditing, web search engine and financial market trading systems. At Vingroup Big Data Institute, Khai works on research and development of tools to analyze genomics data, genome-based models to predict personal health profiles, platforms to manage and process data, pipelines and models, etc.
Nguyen Thành Nguyen
Data-driven researcher with 4 years of experience in Bioinformatic and a zest for solving complex problems. Seeking to leverage the adaptation of precision medicine in Vietnam by integration of big data and machine learning model. At VinBigdata, Nguyen focuses on Pharmacogenomic and Genomic Annotation.
Tran Hoang Mai
Mai has experienced for 10 years in the field of in Genetics, Biochemistry, Cancer and Cell Biology. She has joined the Vingroup Big Data Institute since 2018 with current research interest are population genetics; the correlation between genetic variants and pathogenesis as well as the targeted treatment of precision medicine using –omics data.
Tran Thi Ha Trang
Prior to joining VinBigdata, Trang has worked as a university lecturer and got 4 years' experience in teaching various programming modules and doing research in algorithm application on multi-omics data. In 2018, she participated the DGV4VN project and has been responsible for the QC protocol and the analysis pipelines to process the whole genome sequencing data.
Le Dinh Cuong
Cuong is passionate about creating the software product fast with high quality. He has hands on experience in building automation framework, mentoring his colleagues about software quality mindset and how to get their hands dirty in automation path. His tech stack includes Java, Python, Go, Scala, and Rust recently, along with framework such as Serenity, Selenium, Gatling, k6, ZAP. He is familar with NoSQL and SQL databases such as : Redis, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB.
Nguyen Duy Hoang
Hoang has 11 years of expirience in software industry. His techincal stack includes C++, Java, Python, HTML, Javascript,... At VinBigData he works as Fullstack Engineer.
Dao Dang Toan
With 9 years of experience working as a software engineer, focuses on distributed system, high performance computing and big data processing.
Do Ngoc Tuan
Tuan has 8 years of experience in software development. At Vingroup BigData Institute, Tuan works on developing microservices systems to manage genomic data, patient metadata and build a workflow analysis system.
Vu Ha Van
Scientific Director, VinBigData
Vu Ha Van is currently the Scientific Director of Vingroup Big data Institute and Professor of Mathematics at Yale University.
Prof. Vu Ha Van was born on June 12, 1970 in Hanoi. He attended Chu Van An and Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted. After that, Vu Ha Van was offered a scholarship to study in Hungary. In 1994, he graduated at the Eötvös University, Budapest then received his Ph.D. at Yale University in 1998 under the direction of László Lovász (another Pólya prize winner). Vu Ha Van worked as a postdoc at IAS and Microsoft Research from 1998 to 2001. He joined the University of California, San Diego as an assistant professor in 2001 and was promoted to full professor in 2005. In Fall 2005, he moved to Rutgers University and stayed there until he joined Yale in Fall 2011. Prof. Vu Ha Van was a member at IAS on three occasions (1998, 2005, 2007), the last time (2007) as the leader of the special program Arithmetic Combinatorics.
In terms of honors, in 2002, Vu Ha Van won the Sloan fellowship and NSF Career Award for young scientists in the US. He was an Erdős Lecturer at Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2007 and awarded the Pólya Prize of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics for his work on concentration of measure. In 2012, Prof. Vu Ha Van was awarded the Fulkerson Prize (jointly with Anders Johansson and Jeff Kahn) for determining the threshold of edge density above which a random graph can be covered by disjoint copies of a given smaller graph. Also in 2012, he became a fellow of the American Mathematical Society. Prof. Vu Ha Van became the fellow of Institute of Mathematical Statistics 2020.
George P. Patrinos

George P. Patrinos is Professor of Pharmacogenomics and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology in the University of Patras (Greece), Department of Pharmacy and holds adjunct Professorships at Erasmus MC, Faculty of Medicine, Rotterdam (the Netherlands) and the United Arab Emirates University, College of Medicine, Department of Pathology, Al-Ain (UAE). Also, since 2010, he is Full Member and Greece’s National representative in the CHMP Pharmacogenomics Working Party of the European Medicines Agency (EMA, Amsterdam, the Netherlands) and Co-Chair of the Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative (G2MC) George is currently Head of the Laboratory of Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Medicine, the first officially established academic laboratory on pharmacogenomics in Greece.

Senior Director Target Discovery at Engine Biosciences in Singapore. Formerly Associate Director at the Genome Institute of Singapore and Head of Office of Strategic Alliances and Knowledge Management and Senior Project Manage the national pharmacogenomics project SAPhIRE: Surveillance and Pharmacogenomics of Adverse Drug Reactions. The SAPhIRE programme is developing the elements needed to implement pharmacogenomics at the community level.
Pavel Pevzner

Pavel Pevzner is the Ronald R. Taylor Chair and Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, where he directs the NIH Computational Mass Spectrometry Center. He has a PhD. from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in Russia.
Ron Shamir

Ron Shamir is a computer science professor known for his work in graph theory and computational biology. He holds the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Chair of Bioinformatics, and is the founder and head of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics at Tel Aviv University.
Frank Eisenhaber
Executive Director, Bioinformatics Institute Singapore
Frank Eisenhaber studied mathematics at Humboldt University in Berlin, biophysics and medicine at Pirogov Medical University in Moscow. He was awarded his MD in 1985. Three years later, he received his Ph. in molecular biology from the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology in Moscow (supervised by Dr. Vladimir Gayevich Tumanyan). After his postdoctoral work at the Institute of Molecular Biology in Berlin-Buch (1989-1991) and at EMBL in Heidelberg (1991-1999), he served as head of the bioinformatics research group and head of the Institute's joint IT department. of Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna (1999-2007). He joined A*STAR Bioinformatics Institute Singapore in August 2007 and he has been Managing Director since August 2013.
Bui Thi Hong Ngoc
Ngoc has 10 years' experience in coordination of various projects in both public and private of Vietnam. Ngoc hopes to get further involved in innovative projects at Vingroup Big Data Institute.
Hoang Hong Tham
Tham has 5 years PhD training and 3 years working in the biotech industry as Data Scientist in the US. She hopes to apply her experty to rapid changes of personalized medicine and genomics research in Vietnam.
Robert Green
Associate Physician & Geneticist, Brigham and Women's Hospital br> Director, Genomes2People Research Program
Dr. Green led the first experimental trials disclosing common complex disease risk (REVEAL Study) and the first prospective studies of direct-to-consumer genetic testing services (PGen Study). He currently leads and co-leads the first NIH funded randomized trials of sequencing in adults (MedSeq Project), newborns (BabySeq Project), and active duty US military personnel (MilSeq Project). He created the concept of aggregate penetrance of genomic variants in prospective population cohorts and is demonstrating the feasibility of genomic sequencing in healthy newborns, paving the way for humans to gain lifelong medical benefits from genomics. With continuous funding from NIH for 26 years he has published more than 300 papers with an h index of 98. In 2014, he won the Coriell Prize for Scientific Achievement in Personalized Medicine, and in 2019 was named by BIS Research as one of the 25 most influential voices in precision medicine. Since joining the Harvard Medical School faculty in 2011, the G2P research team has been awarded research support of over $52 million.
Pham Luong Thang
Thang has 5 years PhD training and 1 year working in genomics, transcriptomcis, and lipidomics analysis in Neuroscience in the US. He wants to apply his knowledge to improve health care system in Vietnam.
Nguyen Thi Khanh Ly
With a background in moleculer biology, Ly would like to become a scientist in the field of Biomedicine, especially in rare genetic diseases in humans. When participating in the projects of the VinBigData, Ly expects to learn and improve her knowledge, as well as hopes to contribute to the benefits of public health.
Mai Nguyen Anh Vu
With solid knowledge in computer science, especially artificial intelligence, Vu would like to become a data scientist in the bioinformatics field in order to address precision medicine problems by utilizing modern algorithms. When joining Vingroup Big Data Institue, Vu expects to acquire bioinformatics-related knowledge, skills, and experiences via researching on practice big data, as well as, hopes to contribute to the success of projects and benefits for the community.

An entrepreneurial leader with deep experience in health technology and development of large scale products. Lead the development and release of multiple complex medical device projects. Experiences with product & business strategy, regulatory, development and operations.
Phan Ho Ha Phuong
Has more than 10 years of Product & Project Management experience, managing large scale IT Porjects in information technology and management consulting, primary expertise is in the area of software delivery and solution development strategy; delivering business benefits across a variety of sectors with a strong vendor and commercial background.
Nguyen Quoc Hoai Viet
Viet has more than 10 years of experience in business management (B2B, B2B2C) & once had a medical startup (2011-2013), most recently directly managing a Telemedicine project at VinSmart's IoT-Smartcity Center(2020-2021). He wants to integrate his experience in strategy building, market development and extensive customer network into current projects at VinBigdata on Genetics, to help the product reach a large number of users.
Vu Minh Giang
Medical and population genetics are within the scope of Giang's interests. He applies machine learning models to predicting disease risk for each individual and applies the statistical methods of human population genetics to finding the genetic signals of natural selection. Giang participates in projects at VinBigdata with the desire to contribute to the development of precision medicine in Vietnam.
Pham Minh Tien
Tien is an artificial intelligence engineer has experience in data analysis and processing. With his own background and passion for bioinformatics, Tien focuses on researching big data problems in biomedical information and developing useful applications in both science and life. Tien has experience in using bioinformatics data processing tools and building model mainly in Python and C/C++ on a Linux environment.
Nguyen Ngoc Nam
With the desire to contribute his efforts to community development and promote precision medicine in Vietnam, Nam has leveraged his computer science knowledge to solve big data challenges in genome informatics. While working at Vinbigdata, Nam focuses on the project of building a reference genome for Vietnamese people and disease risk prediction
Tran Thien Tan
Tan is an experienced clinical pharmacist who evaluates and optimizes the use of drugs for each patient based on physical condition, liver and kidney function. With the development of biomedical technology and machine learning, Tan wishes to combine his knowledge and technology to develop precision medicine, helping to improve the health of Vietnamese people. With the motivation to contribute to the Vietnamese biomedical community, Vinh has applied his knowledge in the fields of computer science and artificial intelligence to solve problems in the field of biomedical information. Graduated in biochemistry but passionate about technology, Nguyet developed a career at Vingroup with the desire to promote popular precision medicine in Vietnam. With biochemical knowledge and Python programming skills, Nguyet wishes to contribute and solving big data problems in biomedical information, thereby developing practical applications that will improving health for the people of Vietnam.

Dang Van Chi
Dang helped define the complex functions of the MYC oncogene, a central switch in human cancer, identifying key domains mediating Myc transcription factor activity. Dang received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and Ph.D. in Chemistry from Georgetown University, Washington, DC. He earned an M.D. degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and was an Osler Medical Resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He received Hematology-Oncology training at UCSF, where he first worked on MYC, and returned to Johns Hopkins as Assistant Professor of Medicine. Dang is Scientific Director of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and joined The Wistar Institute as a Professor in July of 2017. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and previously served as director of the Abramson Cancer Center, University of Pennsylvania.
